SMART Local #435 formerly known as Sheet Metal Workers Local #435. We have been providing highly skilled Sheet Metal Workers to our signatory contractors, under specific terms and conditions for over 75 years. Interested workers, both skilled and unskilled needing job opportunities with the best wages and benefits found anywhere in the Sheet Metal Construction Industry should give us a call. We also provide a 4 year apprenticeship program tuition free. There is also Journeymen upgrade training in OSHA, fire life safety, welding and any new technology with in our trade. We offer training to all interested members once they have joined our organization. We want everyone to know that we are the best and most cost effective provider of our industries work force. Customers and Contractors can count on Local #435 members to complete a job on time and under budget. No job is too big or too small for any and all applications associated with the Sheet Metal Industry."

JOB DESCRIPTION:
In spite of technological changes, the Sheet Metal Worker remains nearly the only building trades person to start with raw materials, custom-make complex systems, and then install them. He/she can transform flat sheets of metal into any size or shape that is required by working from a blueprint or verbal instructions.

Being a Sheet Metal Worker involves the fabrication, erection, installation, repairing, replacing and servicing of all HVAC systems and the architectural sheet metal work in the construction industry.

Local #435 Members will gain a knowledge of heating, cooling and ventilation systems, techniques of welding, and the functions of compressors and condensers in the refrigeration cycle. Training areas included are OSHA, hoisting and rigging, soldering, energy management, fire life safety, plans and specs and retrofitting of environmental systems.

 

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM: 
Program includes 8,000 hours (approximately 4 years) of on-the-job training and 180 hours of related instruction each year. SMART Local #435 JATC is approved for Veteran Benefits.  Military Veterans that qualify for Veteran benefits may receive a benefits directly to them during their term of apprenticeship (www.gibill.va.gov).

Applications may be filled out and dropped off with all the required paperwork at the Union Hall at 8374 Devoe St Jacksonville, Florida 32220. Please print the sample apprentice application below. Please bring the required document under "qualification" with you when filling out the application.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be a high school graduate or possess a Certificate of Equivalency (G.E.D.). Applicants must possess the physical ability to perform the duties of the craft. Apprenticeship applicants shall furnish the following along with their application:

1) Birth certificate or reliable information on date of birth.
2) High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate and scores. High school transcript showing grades and attendance.
3) Drivers License and Social Security Card

4) Post-secondary diploma(s), if applicable.

5) Post-secondary transcripts, if applicable.
6) Military discharge and Form DD-214, if applicable.
